Gas Firing

With a structure similar to an electric kiln, gas firing uses combustion to heat up the cavity. This allows experienced potters to manipulate the atmosphere within the kiln, increasing or decreasing the oxygen level in order to achieve the reduction effect in glaze and clay bodies. Fired to a high temperature, gas is occasionally favoured as it is less labour intensive compared to wood firing, yet retains part of its novelty depending on the paths of the flames.
