Wood-firing is a long and arduous process that allows natural ash to coat the art pieces. This is achieved by stoking the flames at the mouth of the kiln chamber, causing the natural ash to go flying within the kiln. As the temperature climbs to 1280ºC, the fine coating of natural wood ash then starts to melt and turn into glaze. The result is often unpredictable, as colours and textures are highly dependent on temperature, amount of ash collected on the artwork, path of the flames and the type of wood used for firing.
