Tokoname Wood-Firing Experience

Tokoname Wood-Firing Experience

Every few years, 3Arts offers an unparalleled experience for pottery enthusiasts with our 18-day Wood-Firing Workshop in Tokoname, Japan. This immersive workshop invites participants to explore the traditional art of wood-fired ceramics in one of Japan’s most historic pottery towns, renowned for its centuries-old kilns and rich ceramic heritage.

Guided by our experienced potters, participants will delve deep into the intricate process of wood firing, from kiln preparation to the firing technique. The highlight of the workshop is the use of the iconic Anagama kiln, where pieces are fired for over 60 hours, resulting in stunning natural ash glazes and textures that can only be achieved through this traditional practice. This intensive program also includes studio sessions, hands-on pottery creation, and the rare opportunity to work alongside local artisans.

This 18-day workshop offers cultural immersion, with visits to local pottery studios and demonstrations with local Japanese Master potters, explorations of historical sites, and the chance to experience the rich traditions of Tokoname. Whether you’re an advanced ceramicist or a passionate learner, this workshop promises a transformative journey into the heart of Japanese pottery.
